This year, the 77th annual Met Gala took place on May 5th, 2025 displaying the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Superfine: Tailoring Black Style is a book written by Monica L. Miller, outlining Black dandyism, a kind of style defined by the use of fine tailoring; gaining prominence in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This theme was chosen in order to highlight Black history in menswear and to celebrate the influence Black culture has had in our modern day culture.
Fitted in fearlessness
At the 2025 Met Gala, there were roughly 600 attendees, including Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Usher, Tyler the Creator, Simone Biles, Angel Reese, Doechii, and many, many more!
There were many notable looks, shocking fans, such as Rhianna’s Marc Jacobs dress and cropped, black blazer, revealing her third pregnancy.
There were celebrities who took the assigned theme seriously such as actress Teyana Taylor’s black and red, pinstriped suit with an exaggeratedly big, bright red blazer.
This suit was designed by Ruth E. Carter, who is well known for the amazing costume designs found in the 2018 Marvel film, Black Panther.
Joey King made an appearance at the gala in a beautiful green suit tailored with crystal mirrors, taking a more abstract approach from this year’s theme.
The 2025 Met Gala was not lacking in controversial designs, as per usual.
Fans were left confused by the Stranger Things star, Maya Hawke’s pink Prada dress, featuring an awkward, tan cape, as it struggled to fit under the established theme.
Lisa of BLACKPINK and Sabrina Carpenter were also highly discussed as both of their Louis Vuitton bodysuits did not feature pants.

Supporting the arts
The Met Gala is a highly discussed event every year, but it is important to recognize why the event exists.
The cost of a ticket to this elegant party is $75,000 dollars, which helps raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
This institute works toward maintaining precious fashion artifacts through research and preservation that the Met Gala directly funds.
It is important to support the arts and the history of it in order to preserve its significance in culture, which is why events like the Met Gala are beneficial, while still being fun to attend and discuss.
