In the wings of the Loretto Academy’s Little Theater, the process of making a production is so much more than just rehearsals and set pieces.
When interviewed, the majority of my fellow thespians agreed that the word that best describes theater is, “family.”
This family brings together both cast and crew members to make every show the best it can possibly be!
Just a week before the debut of this year’s production of Chicago, it was safe to say that no one felt prepared.
That is just the average environment that surrounds the chaotic after school practices in the Loretto Theater.
Anyone who would innocently assume that the dressing rooms are even remotely clean would be completely mistaken!
Scripts are always stolen, costumes
are swapped, penny loafers get lost, and glasses are misplaced, but never doubt the co-head of tech, Kaylee Weis’s ability to have the theater unlocked by the morning for your lost ID or discarded homework.
Every member of Loretto’s theater club supports one another.
This unconditional support is the primary source of motivation for everyone’s performance, cast or crew.
I could not have asked for a better group of people to spend my senior year of theater with.

The Plaza: All That Jazz
Bringing the iconic musical, Chicago, to life on a small stage was no easy task, but having the opportunity to see the touring production of the show definitely helped with the process!
Chicago was produced in 1975 and has established itself as an extremely well known musical and theater experience.
Its presence was able to attract a full house every day the weekend it visited El Paso from March 21 to March 23, 2025.
The show is a grand spectacle, so seeing it translated onto such a small stage was very impressive!
The audience, including myself, was extremely mesmerized by the incredibly trained band and musicians that interacted with the actors regularly.
This snippet of what Chicago was supposed to look like definitely gave Loretto’s actors and actresses, including myself, the motivation to put on a show that was comparable to the touring professionals!
