Loretto’s track and field teams are gearing up for a long season, with their first meets on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11.

Track and field practice began in January 2023 at Burges High School.

The team consists of 18 girls; a combination of sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Before district meets in April, the track and field team will have seven meets in El Paso, Texas.

The track coaches are Joe Ramirez and Moriah Kelly, who were also the cross-country coaches last season.

Ramirez said, “For this season, we have a lot of girls that have been in the program for a couple of years now and are experienced.

We should be able to compete with these bigger schools in the city and out of town.

I believe we will do well in the meets we compete in.”

As track and field season begins, the basketball, soccer, golf, and tennis seasons are in progress or near their ends.

Ramirez said, “We are also waiting for girls in other sports to come so that we can fill in the areas we need.

We are still looking for freshman and long-distance runners to come out, but overall, I believe we will have a good season.”

As the girls continue to train and compete, there is no doubt that they will strive for greatness.
