The Loretto Tennis team is searching for a Regional title to redeem their lost chances to play at regionals because of the pandemic in 2020, and being champions in 2019their 2019 win.

Senior Sophia Borrego said, “So as we prepare to go to regionals we are all training as much as we can; we try to get as many hours as we can on the court.”

The original plan was for the girls to compete on March 27, 2021, in San Antonio Texas.

However, because it is so hard to reserve a large number of courts in the pandemic the location and date are still unknown.

Freshmen Emma Isaac said, “I’m excited about regionals because they are out of town and I feel like they would be more fun if COVID wasn’t a thing, but I’m still excited.”

The team is taking eight girls, but only six will play; the team ranges from freshmen to seniors.

In comparison to previous years, each player’s parent will travel with them, as COVID guidelines do not allow the players to room together.

Due to COVID, the team has played significantly fewer games than in previous years.

Senior tennis player, Victoria Chiu said, “It’s sad though because it’s the senior’s last regionals and for most of the team it’s their first regionals and they don’t get to experience it the same way we did before Covid-19.”

They will be traveling and competing alongside the Cathedral tennis team.

We wish the girls to lock as they take on TAPPS at regionals.
