Entrepreneur Oprah Winfrey announced on August 18, a full day all-paid holiday for her employees on election day, encouraging everyone to vote.

The upcoming US elections will be held on November 3, between current president of the United States, Donald Trump, 47th vice president, Joe Biden, and others.

The presidential elections are always held the first Tuesday in the month of November; the tradition has been kept since 1845.

Winfrey said, “This will give my team the necessary time to put on their masks, get to the polls, cast their ballots, and volunteer.”

She wants her staff to know about the importance of Election Day, and honor all those who fought and continue to fight for our rights.

Also, remembering the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which gave some women the right to vote.

The show icon made the announcement through Twitter and Instagram and challenged other companies to follow the same drill.

She hopes the election holiday will be imitated by other companies.

Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), announced their kick-off of their first voting initiative called “Own Your Vote.”

OWN said their initiative is “a bipartisan, pro-social campaign for Black women, to recognize the power and importance of her vote, and empower her to take action.”

The cover of her magazine, The Oprah Magazine, for the month of July, featured and honored late Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was shot by police officers in a no-knock warrant in her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky.

It was the first time in the magazine’s cover history that someone else other than Oprah became the cover subject.

Election Day has been a particularly talked about subject and not only Oprah but other celebrities have also encouraged their staff and viewers to vote this November 3.
