Houston Astros, future of technology

The Houston Astros baseball team has been caught red-handed.

The Astros were caught sign stealing through a camera that was purposefully placed in the center-field where the catcher is located.

The camera sent the footage to Astros’ staff members and players so that they could decode it.

Once they decoded the signs, they would bang on trash cans, and the batter would get the signal.

For the batter to know what the pitch will be like changes the play and gives the batter a huge advantage.

Sign stealing has been around since forever and is very common.

Technically speaking, it is not against the rules and many teams do it, but sign stealing is tricky.

No one is going to publicly announced that they used sign stealing.

In fact, in the Olympics, if a team is caught sign stealing, they cannot win a gold medal.

The reason why it was such a big deal for the Houston Astros to be caught sign stealing is that they used technology.

When sign stealing is done the old-fashioned way without technology, it is very rare that a player will actually decipher signals.

By using technology, they are almost assured to know how to decode the signals.

The Astros did this through the 2017 and 2018 series.

This cheating scandal has tainted their 2017 World Series title.

It has come into question whether they would have won the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.

The Houston Astros were fined $5 million and in the 2020 and 2021 player draft, they will forfeit their first and second round.

The Houston Astros’ reputation has been tarnished, and it has hopefully taught other teams a lesson on sign stealing.
