One of Loretto’s many traditions is decorating pumpkins before Halloween.

On October 17, 2019, a long homeroom was added at the end of the school day so each class could decorate their pumpkins.

The atmosphere began to change when Halloween music was played on the intercom.

Each homeroom began to gather their materials and started on the pumpkin decorating.

Once the pumpkins were completed, judges voted on the best one to be crowned the winner.

As Rebecca Terrazas, student body president, and Mia Hernandez, student body vice president, began asking Halloween trivia, one could hear footsteps of the girls rushing to answer.

Freshman Luciana Baeza said, “My favorite part of the pumpkin decorating was all the questions they asked, and being able to answer them with your friends.”

The annual pumpkin decorating helps bring everyone together in order to set the Halloween mood.

The pumpkin decorating contest is time for friends to talk, bring food, and to get creative.

Junior Andrea Baeza said, “My favorite part is being able to be with your friends and to just talk.”

As the bell rang, many girls stayed to finish the pumpkins and the finished products were amazing.

The effort and time put into the pumpkins was evident.

During the Halloween assembly on October 31, 2019, the winners were announced.

Seniors won best background; best theme portrayal was Mickey and Minnie; third place was juniors with Captain Hook; second place the sophomores with the crocodile; and the winners were the juniors with the Queen of Hearts.

Decorating pumpkins has always been a great tradition that Loretto has to get students excited for Halloween.
