Twenty eight members of the US Women’s Soccer team have filed lawsuits against the league for gender discrimination, announcing their statement on March 8.

The players have long spoken out against the issue, constantly fighting for equal pay.

The US Women’s team has won three World Cups, while the men have won zero and they are paid a fraction of what the men earn.

In 2015 World Cup play, for example, the filing outlined that “women earned four times less than the men while performing demonstrably better.” Last year, the women won their third World Cup, while the men have not advanced past the quarterfinals in the modern era. (They placed third in 1930.), according to PBS.org.

“Each of us is extremely proud to wear the United States jersey, and we also take seriously the responsibility that comes with that. We believe that fighting for gender equality in sports is a part of that responsibility. As players, we deserved to be paid equally for our work, regardless of our gender.” said Alex Morgan, one of the leagues best players.

It is incredibly important what these women are doing, this is the beginning of change.

The stigma of women being afraid to speak out is deteriorating as hundred of women are speaking out for discrimination and sexual assault.
