Locomotive season kickoff

On Saturday March 9th, 2019, El Paso welcomed the “Locos” for their season opener at the Southwest University Park against Energy FC.

The team was established in 2018 but made their debut across the USL (United Soccer League) Championships in 2019.

Derek Gebhard, No. 27, scored the first goal during minute 15 and the baseball park turned soccer stadium became electrified.

Although the Locos lost their first game 3-1, their enthusiasm continues for their following games.

The season will last thirty-three weeks and will run until October 20.

Their March home games will be played on March 23 and 30 and twenty-six out of their thirty-four games will be played on Saturday.

Their full seasonal schedule can be found on their official website eplocomotivefc.com.

The first draft of the team was Omar Salgado which described his signing as “a dream come true.”

Salagdo has played for various professional teams throughout Mexico, Canada, and the United States including Chivas Guadalajara, Tigres of Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Las Vegas Lights, and Vancouver Whitecaps.

Having the first draft of the team being an El Paso native is inspiring especially for an El Paso team.

Their next home game will be on March 30, 2019.

Make sure to catch Omar Salgado and the rest of the Locomotives at any of their home games.
